Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged lawmakers to establish a legislative framework for future post-war elections despite current martial law restrictions.

Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on Kyiv lawmakers to establish the legislative foundation required for future national elections. Although current Ukrainian law strictly prohibits holding elections while martial law remains active, Fedorov emphasized that electoral authorities must begin logistical preparations early.

He noted that organizing votes for millions of overseas refugees and soldiers fighting on the frontline presents unprecedented administrative challenges. Preparing rules in advance aims to safeguard democratic participation and ensure a smooth transition once security conditions permit martial law to be lifted. President Volodymyr Zelensky removed Fedorov from his post in July, but the former minister remains an influential public figure advocating for democratic readiness.
