Former Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged Kyiv to begin technical preparations for post-war elections to ensure voting access for soldiers and refugees.

Former Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on officials in Kyiv to initiate technical preparations for post-war democratic elections. Fedorov, who was dismissed by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, stressed that establishing the necessary administrative framework is critical to guarantee voting rights for frontline soldiers, internally displaced persons, and millions of refugees residing abroad once hostilities cease.

Ukrainian law strictly prohibits holding elections while martial law remains active, and the presidential administration continues to prioritize national defense over electoral planning. However, Fedorov warned that failing to organize technical logistics in advance could significantly delay democratic processes after the war ends. Zelensky's administration has not indicated any plans to alter current election restrictions while martial law is enforced.
