EU extends sanctions on Russia as Trump claims agreement on energy targets
The EU extended sanctions against Russia following a border train strike, while US President Donald Trump stated Kyiv and Moscow agreed to refrain from targeting energy infrastructure.
The European Union has extended its sanctions against Russia following a strike on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned the attack, stating it was designed to "intimidate and divide Europeans."
The diplomatic push occurred amid ongoing fighting across several fronts. Local officials in the Kherson region reported two fatalities and 14 injuries caused by shelling, while Ukrainian drone strikes reportedly wounded seven people across Russia's Belgorod and Sochi regions.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced that Moscow and Kyiv have reached an agreement to refrain from targeting each other's energy infrastructure. In Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a formal decree removing the country's prosecutor general from office.
