Former Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged Kyiv to begin technical preparations for post-war elections to avoid delays once hostilities end.

Former Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on authorities in Kyiv to begin technical preparations for post-war elections. Fedorov, who was dismissed by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, argued that establishing administrative infrastructure is vital so that soldiers, internally displaced citizens, and refugees living abroad can exercise their voting rights once hostilities end.

Ukrainian law prohibits holding elections while martial law is active, and the presidential administration continues to prioritize immediate military defence. However, Fedorov warned that failing to organize electoral mechanisms now could lead to significant delays in holding democratic elections after the conflict. Zelensky's office has shown no intention of easing election restrictions while martial law remains in place.
