Former Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged Kyiv officials to begin technical preparations for post-war democratic elections despite current martial law restrictions.

Former Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on Kyiv to initiate technical preparations for post-war democratic elections. Fedorov, who was dismissed by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, stressed that establishing administrative frameworks early is essential to guarantee voting rights for frontline soldiers, internally displaced citizens, and overseas refugees once hostilities end.

Ukrainian law strictly prohibits holding elections while martial law remains in effect, and the presidential administration continues to prioritize national defense over electoral planning. However, Fedorov warned that failing to organize logistics in advance could significantly delay democratic processes after the war. Zelensky's administration has not indicated any plans to alter election restrictions while conflict persists.
