Sarajevo defense events highlight emerging drone threats and Bosnian arms expansion

Military experts and officials gathered in Sarajevo for security discussions and a defense fair highlighting drone threats and domestic arms production.
International military officials and defense experts gathered in Sarajevo for the fourth Sarajevo Security Conference alongside the "First Balkan Shield 2026" defense fair.
EUROCONTROL representative Karsten Stoye identified low-altitude drones as the primary challenge for European airspace over the next five years. Concurrently, NATO Rear Admiral Van Zanten underscored the rising role of artificial intelligence and uncrewed naval surface vessels in modern defense strategies.
In parallel, officials from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced plans to construct two new defense factories. The expansion follows a reported doubling of domestic military production over the past three years, aimed at strengthening national security and expanding international market participation.
