International military leaders evaluated drone threats at the Sarajevo Security Conference as Bosnia announced plans to open two new defense manufacturing plants.

At the fourth Sarajevo Security Conference, international military leaders addressed evolving airspace and maritime security challenges, focusing heavily on uncrewed systems and artificial intelligence.

EUROCONTROL Major General Karsten Stoye designated low-altitude uncrewed aerial vehicles as the primary emerging threat to European airspace over the next five years. Concurrently, NATO Rear Admiral Van Zanten emphasized the necessity of integrating uncrewed surface vessels and artificial intelligence into naval operations to address modern maritime risks.

In tandem with the summit, Bosnia and Herzegovina hosted the "First Balkan Shield 2026" defense fair. Government officials from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced plans to open two new defense manufacturing facilities following a three-year period in which domestic production doubled. The fair showcased local manufacturers alongside international suppliers from China, Egypt, Slovenia, and Turkey.
