Military leaders at the Sarajevo Security Conference addressed emerging drone threats while Bosnia announced plans to open two new defense factories.

Military leaders and defense experts gathered in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the fourth Sarajevo Security Conference to address key European airspace and maritime security risks. EUROCONTROL Major General Karsten Stoye identified low-altitude uncrewed aerial vehicles as the primary emerging threat to European airspace over the next five years. Meanwhile, NATO Rear Admiral Van Zanten highlighted the growing necessity of integrating uncrewed surface vessels and artificial intelligence into naval operations to combat modern maritime threats.

Coinciding with the conference, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced plans to expand its defense manufacturing sector by establishing two new production facilities. Officials noted that domestic defense output doubled over the preceding three years. The expansion was underscored at the "First Balkan Shield 2026" defense fair, which brought together domestic manufacturers alongside international suppliers from China, Egypt, Slovenia, and Turkey.
