A contentious Orange Order parade in Portadown remains stalled after counter-protesters blocked Garvaghy Road, missing the court-approved timeframe.

A contentious Orange Order parade in Portadown remained suspended after thousands of counter-protesters blocked Garvaghy Road, preventing 35 marchers from completing their route. An early-morning Belfast High Court ruling had upheld a decision by the Parades Commission allowing the silent procession between 8:00 am and 9:30 am, marking the first time the group was permitted along the nationalist flashpoint since 1998.

Police halted the march near Drumcree Church as demonstrator crowds grew, joined by political figures including Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O'Neill. The designated time window elapsed while march organizers held discussions, leaving the procession in limbo. Both marchers and counter-protesters remained at the site as authorities monitored the situation and called for calm.
