A disputed Orange Order parade in Portadown was stopped by police after thousands of counter-protesters blocked Garvaghy Road following a High Court ruling permitting a limited procession.

Tensions persist in Portadown after thousands of counter-protesters blocked a contentious Orange Order procession along Garvaghy Road. An early morning Belfast High Court ruling had cleared 35 members of the Protestant organization to conduct a brief silent march, marking the first sanctioned procession along the predominantly nationalist route since 1998.

However, demonstrator crowds gathered on the road to physically obstruct the marchers. Key political figures, including Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O'Neill, joined the protest. Citing public safety concerns, law enforcement intervened to stop the procession shortly after it left Drumcree Church. Orange Order representatives have been negotiating with police officers as both groups remain at the flashpoint, leaving the parade suspended.
