German authorities concluded their reinvestigation into the 1970 Munich Jewish retirement home arson, confirming evidence points to deceased neo-Nazi Bernd V.

German prosecutors in Munich have formally concluded their reinvestigation into the 1970 arson attack on a Jewish retirement home, concluding that evidence points to a deceased neo-Nazi suspect.

The attack, which killed seven elderly residents and injured 15 others, was one of Germany's most prominent unsolved post-war antisemitic crimes. According to the Munich General Public Prosecutor's Office, newly evaluated findings substantiated suspicions against Bernd V., an extremist from the far-right scene who died in 2020.

Investigators had focused on the suspect early in their inquiries, but official charges could not be brought before his death. Authorities noted that while the gathered evidence "strongly speaks to his guilt," the case cannot be formally closed through judicial proceedings due to the suspect's passing.
