Former Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on parliament to draft legislative rules for future elections following the eventual end of martial law.

Former Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged parliament to establish the legal framework required for holding future post-war national elections. Ukrainian law currently bans holding elections while martial law remains active.

Fedorov highlighted that authorities must begin logistical preparations early to handle significant administrative hurdles. These include managing voting options for millions of Ukrainian refugees abroad as well as soldiers serving on the frontline. Preparing regulations in advance is intended to safeguard democratic participation whenever security conditions allow martial law to be lifted. President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Fedorov from his post in July, but the former minister remains a prominent voice advocating for electoral readiness.
