Rescue teams in Nepal and Tibet search through mud and debris following catastrophic flash floods, with death tolls rising and over 1,000 people missing.

Emergency teams in Nepal and Tibet are continuing search and rescue operations following Wednesday's destructive flash floods, triggered by a Himalayan glacial collapse near the border. Casualty figures remain fluid across reporting outlets, with Nepal's death toll reported between 165 and over 175 people, alongside three confirmed fatalities in Tibet.

Discrepancies persist regarding missing persons. Estimates range from 800 to more than 1,300 people across both territories, including hundreds of foreign tourists. Search efforts remain severely hampered by deep mud, destroyed infrastructure, and disrupted communications, particularly near the Gyirong border crossing. Seismologists noted that the torrent hit with a force comparable to an earthquake, destroying entire communities within moments as rescue workers trudge through debris to recover victims.
