Emergency teams are searching for up to 1,500 missing people after a glacial collapse triggered severe flash flooding along the border between Nepal and Tibet.

Search and rescue teams continue operations along the Himalayan border between Nepal and Tibet following a catastrophic flash flood caused by a glacial collapse. Fatality estimates continue to vary across initial reports, with Nepali authorities updating the domestic death toll to 469, while Chinese officials have recorded at least three fatalities in Tibet.

Between 1,000 and 1,500 people remain missing across the region. Among those unaccounted for are hundreds of foreign tourists, including citizens from the United Kingdom, the United States, India, Australia, Malaysia, and Ukraine.

The floodwaters and accompanying mudslides have destroyed homes, bridges, and hydroelectric power stations, severely disrupting transport and communication links. Emergency workers face persistent challenges from difficult terrain and the ongoing risk of secondary flooding.
