Emergency crews are searching for over 1,000 missing people after catastrophic flash floods struck the Nepal-Tibet border region, killing hundreds and destroying local infrastructure.

Search and rescue operations continue along the Nepal-Tibet border following a sudden mud and rock collapse that triggered severe flash flooding on Wednesday. Emergency crews face hazardous conditions and damaged infrastructure as they work to locate between 1,000 and 1,500 missing individuals, including foreign tourists and workers from several countries.

Casualty reports varied as the situation developed, with Nepalese police later confirming the domestic death toll had climbed to 469. Chinese authorities reported three deaths in Tibet. The floods destroyed residential areas, bridges, roadways, and hydroelectric plants in the affected valleys, while authorities warn of persistent threats from secondary flooding.
