Search efforts continue as casualty estimates vary following Nepal-Tibet floods

Rescue operations continue across the border between Nepal and Tibet following Wednesday's glacial collapse and subsequent flash flooding. A wall of mud and rock destroyed homes, power projects, and infrastructure along Himalayan river routes.

Discrepancies remain regarding the full extent of casualties. Several news outlets report at least 165 fatalities in Nepal and three in Tibet, while earlier accounts cited lower figures and the Sweden Herald reports the combined death toll has exceeded 390. Missing person reports range between 1,000 and more than 1,400 individuals across both regions, including hundreds of foreign nationals from countries such as India, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, and Ukraine.

Emergency crews in Nepal and China are continuing search efforts in damaged areas, particularly around the Gyirong border region, though severed transportation links and debris complicate recovery operations.
