Emergency teams in Nepal and Tibet search for hundreds of missing people following catastrophic flash floods caused by a glacial collapse.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing along the Himalayan border between Nepal and Tibet following a catastrophic glacial collapse that triggered massive flash flooding. Emergency workers are navigating deep mud, destroyed roads, and collapsed infrastructure to locate survivors.

Reported casualty figures vary across media outlets, with confirmed deaths ranging from at least 165 to over 175 people in Nepal, alongside three reported fatalities in Tibet. Hundreds of individuals remain missing, including local residents and international tourists from countries such as India, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

The deluge swept away villages, hydroelectric projects, and key transportation routes. Eyewitnesses described torrents of mud overtaking entire communities, while seismic monitoring equipment initially recorded the impact with a magnitude resembling an earthquake. International and local emergency teams continue searching impacted areas near the Gyirong border crossing.
