A restricted Orange Order parade in Portadown was halted by police after counter-protesters blocked Garvaghy Road, causing marchers to miss their court-mandated deadline.

A contentious Orange Order parade in Portadown remained blocked on Sunday after thousands of counter-protesters gathered along the predominately nationalist Garvaghy Road. The gathering followed an early-morning Belfast High Court ruling that upheld a decision by the Parades Commission allowing 35 Orangemen to conduct a silent procession along the Troubles-era flashpoint route between 8:00 and 9:30 AM.

Police halted the marchers near Drumcree Church to prevent potential clashes as large crowds, including First Minister Michelle O'Neill, filled the intended route. Because of the police intervention and the ongoing blockade, the marchers missed their court-mandated deadline. Representatives from the Protestant organization subsequently entered talks with authorities to address the impasse, while tensions between opposing groups remained high across the area.
