Hungary's government has recovered 2.27 billion forints from a Mészáros-linked fund following a toll audit and expanded scrutiny to contracts held by IT entrepreneur Gábor Emőri.

Hungarian Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy announced that a private equity fund associated with businessman Lőrinc Mészáros has returned 2.27 billion forints to the state treasury. The reimbursement follows an official audit into a 64.5 billion forint acquisition of three electronic toll system companies, which was negotiated under former minister János Lázár.

Following the recovery of funds, government scrutiny has expanded to examine historical procurement contracts awarded to IT entrepreneur Gábor Emőri. Emőri, one of Hungary's wealthiest businessmen, played a key role in developing and managing the national e-toll infrastructure over a 12-year period. Authorities are currently assessing whether additional public funds from past toll management agreements can be reclaimed.
