Hungarian authorities reclaimed 2.27 billion forints from a Mészáros-linked fund while expanding an investigation into electronic toll contracts involving IT entrepreneur Gábor Emőri.

Hungarian Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy announced that a private equity fund associated with businessman Lőrinc Mészáros has returned 2.27 billion forints to the state. The reimbursement relates to a 64.5 billion forint acquisition of three electronic toll system companies executed during the tenure of former minister János Lázár.

Following the recovery, government scrutiny has expanded to IT entrepreneur Gábor Emőri, who spent 12 years developing and managing core infrastructure for the national toll network. Emőri is recognized as a major beneficiary of state IT contracts, and authorities are evaluating whether further asset recoveries will be required as the investigation into historical public deals continues.
