Hungary's government has recovered 2.27 billion forints following an audit of an electronic toll deal and expanded its investigation into historic IT procurement contracts.

Hungarian Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy confirmed that a private equity fund associated with businessman Lőrinc Mészáros has reimbursed 2.27 billion forints to the state treasury.

The repayment follows an official audit of a 64.5 billion forint transaction concluded under former minister János Lázár, in which the state acquired three electronic toll system operators. Following the financial recovery, government authorities expanded their investigation to examine historic procurement contracts connected to IT entrepreneur Gábor Emőri. Emőri played a key role in developing and managing Hungary's national toll infrastructure over a 12-year period. Officials are currently evaluating whether additional public funds from past toll management agreements can be reclaimed by the state.
