German interior minister labels Berlin Pride vehicle attack as Islamist terrorism

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has classified Saturday's deadly vehicle attack at Berlin's Pride parade as an act of Islamist terrorism.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced on Sunday that the fatal vehicle attack at Berlin's Pride parade is being treated as an act of "Islamist terrorism." According to Dobrindt, the suspect, 21-year-old Abdul B., was previously known to security services for multiple criminal offenses.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening near Tiergarten park when a car struck a crowd of pedestrians, killing one woman and injuring 16 others before hitting a tree. Law enforcement agencies immediately suspended all remaining parade festivities as an intensive manhunt got underway.
Following the attack, Bundestag President Julia Klöckner ordered flags at the parliamentary building lowered to half-mast. German officials and religious leaders have announced memorial services and called for a complete investigation into the event.
