German police shot and killed 21-year-old suspect Abdul Ballout following a vehicular attack at Berlin's Pride parade that left one dead and 16 injured.

German police have shot and killed the suspect in a vehicular attack on Berlin's Christopher Street Day parade, ending a citywide manhunt.

Authorities identified the suspect as Abdul Ballout, a 21-year-old German citizen of Lebanese descent. Officers located Ballout in Berlin's western district of Spandau, where police opened fire after he allegedly charged at them with a knife.

The manhunt was initiated after a white van was driven into a crowd near Tiergarten park late Saturday evening, leaving one woman dead and 16 other people injured. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that preliminary evidence indicates an "Islamist attack." Federal and local law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate the suspect's background and potential extremist connections.
