German police have shot dead 21-year-old suspect Abdul Ballout in Spandau following a vehicle attack at Berlin Pride that left one dead and 16 injured.

German law enforcement officers have shot and killed the primary suspect behind a vehicle attack at Berlin's Christopher Street Day celebration, ending a citywide manhunt.

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old German citizen Abdul Ballout, was fatally shot in the borough of Spandau after charging at officers with a knife during his arrest. Authorities launched the search after a white van rammed into a crowd near Tiergarten park, leaving one woman dead and 16 other people injured.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that initial evidence indicates an "Islamist attack." Federal and local police continue to investigate the suspect's background and check for potential co-conspirators, while capital security measures remain elevated.
