German police have killed the suspect behind a fatal vehicle attack at Berlin's Christopher Street Day parade following a citywide manhunt.

German police have shot and killed the suspect involved in a fatal vehicle attack during Berlin's Christopher Street Day parade. Authorities identified the suspect as Abdul Ballout, a 21-year-old German citizen of Lebanese heritage. He was killed in the western district of Spandau after confronting officers with a knife during a citywide manhunt.

The incident occurred near Tiergarten park on Saturday evening when a white van drove into a crowd, killing one woman and injuring 16 others. Federal and local law enforcement agencies launched an intensive search immediately following the ramming.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that evidence indicates an "Islamist attack." Federal investigators continue to examine potential extremist motives and search for possible accomplices.
