Austria recorded a potential new national temperature record of up to 41 °C in Vienna on Tuesday, eclipsing its previous 2013 record.

Austria has recorded its highest temperature on record as severe summer heatwaves continue across the region. Measurements at the Vienna-Stammersdorf weather station reached up to 41 °C on Tuesday afternoon, surpassing the previous national record of 40.5 °C set in August 2013 in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg.

Public broadcaster ORF and Dutch news portal NU reported an initial figure of 40.8 °C, noting that official validation by national weather service GeoSphere Austria remains pending. Meanwhile, Austrian daily newspapers Die Presse and Der Standard reported that local readings peaked at 41 °C at approximately 3:30 p.m. Authorities maintained red heat alerts across eastern Austria, while news magazine Profil warned that extreme conditions highlight the urgency of expanding domestic energy capacity and strengthening power grids.
