US reports Russia-Ukraine energy strike pause amid continued fighting

US President Donald Trump announced a deal between Russia and Ukraine to halt energy strikes, even as regional fighting and EU sanctions enforcement persist.
US President Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to halt strikes against each other's energy infrastructure. Despite the reported agreement, military operations continue across multiple fronts. Ukrainian authorities reported two deaths and 14 injuries from Russian shelling in Kherson, while Ukrainian drone attacks wounded seven people across Sochi and Russia's Belgorod region.
In response to sustained hostilities, the European Union renewed sanctions against Moscow. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated a Russian strike on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border aimed to intimidate European nations. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree dismissing the country's prosecutor general.
