Violence persists in Ukraine as EU extends sanctions against Russia

Combat continues in Ukraine and border regions despite claims of an energy strike pause, while the EU extends sanctions against Moscow.
Fighting across Ukraine and border regions continues despite US President Donald Trump claiming both nations agreed to halt strikes against energy infrastructure. Recent Russian attacks in the Kherson region killed two people and wounded 14, while Ukrainian drone strikes reportedly injured seven individuals in Russia's Belgorod and Sochi regions.
Concurrently, the European Union extended its sanctions framework against Moscow. EU diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned a recent strike on a train near the Polish border, framing it as an attempt to intimidate European partners. Meanwhile, in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the country's prosecutor general from office by decree.
