Fighting continues in Ukraine as EU extends sanctions against Russia

Attacks persist across Ukraine and Russia despite claims of an energy infrastructure ceasefire, while the EU extends sanctions against Moscow.
Cross-border attacks between Ukrainian and Russian forces continued despite claims by US President Donald Trump of a mutual agreement to halt strikes on energy infrastructure. Recent Russian shelling in Ukraine's Kherson region killed two people and injured 14 others. Concurrently, Ukrainian drone strikes reportedly injured seven individuals across Russia's Belgorod and Sochi regions.
In diplomatic developments, the European Union extended its sanctions regime against Russia. EU diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned a Russian attack on a train near the Polish border, characterising it as an attempt to intimidate and divide European nations. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued an executive decree officially removing the country's prosecutor general from office.
