Portugal's minority government survived a censure motion introduced by the far-right Chega party after the Socialist Party abstained in parliament.

Portugal's minority administration defeated a censure motion introduced by the far-right Chega party on Tuesday following a parliamentary debate. As anticipated, the ruling Democratic Alliance coalition voted against the measure, while the main opposition Socialist Party abstained, securing the government's survival.

The motion, titled "For the end of a Government without political authority," stemmed from ongoing controversies surrounding the Internal Administration Ministry. Closing the debate, Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro criticized Chega for triggering a vote destined to fail. He suggested voters would render a "political judgment" on the party's tactics, while reiterating that the administration maintains no "preferential partner" in parliament.
