Portugal's parliament has rejected a censure motion introduced by the far-right Chega party against the minority government, following an abstention by the opposition Socialists.

Portugal's parliament has officially rejected a motion of censure introduced by the far-right Chega party against the country's minority administration. The initiative, brought forward over recent controversies involving the Minister of Internal Administration, failed after a three-hour parliamentary debate. Members of the ruling coalition voted against the measure, while the main opposition Socialist Party (PS) chose to abstain, guaranteeing the motion's defeat.

Speaking at the close of deliberations, Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro condemned Chega for advancing a proposal destined to fail and targeted PS for its abstention. Leitão Amaro noted that citizens would make a "political judgment" regarding Chega's actions. He added that the administration will continue negotiating on a case-by-case basis without establishing any "preferred partner."
