Portugal's parliament has defeated a censure motion introduced by the far-right Chega party against the minority government after the opposition Socialists abstained.

Portugal's parliament has rejected a motion of censure brought by the far-right Chega party against the country's minority administration following a three-hour debate. The motion, focused on recent controversies surrounding the Minister of Internal Administration, failed after the ruling coalition voted against it while the main opposition Socialist Party (PS) abstained.

Following the vote, Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro criticized Chega for introducing a measure destined to fail and targeted the PS for its abstention. Leitão Amaro stated that citizens would make a "political judgment" regarding Chega's move. He emphasized that the cabinet will continue to negotiate legislation on a case-by-case basis without establishing any "preferred partner" in parliament.
