Portugal's minority government survived a censure motion brought by the right-wing Chega party after the opposition Socialist Party abstained in parliament.

Portugal's minority Democratic Alliance government has survived a censure motion brought by the right-wing populist Chega party after a three-hour debate in parliament.

The motion, targeting recent controversies within the Ministry of Internal Administration, was defeated after lawmakers from the ruling coalition voted against it and the main opposition Socialist Party abstained.

Following the vote, Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro criticized Chega's tactics, predicting voters would deliver political judgment on the party's actions. He reiterated that the government intends to govern by seeking individual consensus on specific legislative proposals rather than forming a permanent coalition alliance.
