Portugal's Left Bloc demands guaranteed abortion access in public hospitals as new reports highlight rising domestic violence and shifting regional migration patterns.

Portugal's Left Bloc has submitted a parliamentary resolution urging the government to guarantee timely access to voluntary pregnancy terminations within the National Health Service. The initiative follows statements from local patient committees claiming that Garcia de Orta Hospital recently "discontinued" abortion services, though health management asserted the interruption is "temporary."

Concurrently, national coverage highlighted persistent domestic violence, with authorities recording over 14,000 complaints, averaging 82 incidents daily. In social integration developments, eight Afghan women marked one year living in Portugal after escaping Taliban restrictions on education and employment.

Separately, the International Organization for Migration reported a 78 percent decline in West African Atlantic route arrivals during early 2026, attributing the decrease to enhanced border controls between Senegal and Mauritania.
