Political scholar Alpo Rusi details late-Cold War KGB intimidation targeting former Finnish Prime Minister Keijo Liinamaa.

Political science scholar Alpo Rusi has provided further analysis on Soviet intelligence operations targeting Finnish political leadership in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Writing in a guest column for Iltalehti, Rusi examined covert pressure applied to Keijo Liinamaa, who served as Finland's national conciliator and prime minister, shortly before his death in 1980.

According to the account, the KGB sought to influence internal political alignments and presidential succession strategies near the end of President Urho Kekkonen's tenure. Liinamaa had reportedly disclosed these threats to close associates, illustrating the extent of Moscow's covert interference in Helsinki's domestic affairs during the late Cold War period.
