Political scientist Alpo Rusi details Cold War KGB pressure and threats directed at former Finnish Prime Minister Keijo Liinamaa during the late 1970s.

Former Finnish Prime Minister and National Conciliator Keijo Liinamaa faced direct threats from Soviet intelligence operators shortly before his death in December 1980, according to analysis published by political scientist Alpo Rusi in Iltalehti.

Rusi's account outlines how KGB agents targeted Liinamaa during a pivotal political transition as President Urho Kekkonen's era drew to a close. Moscow sought to manipulate Finland's internal affairs, focusing specifically on trade union negotiations and executive decision-making structures to maintain geopolitical influence over Helsinki during the Cold War. Liinamaa had disclosed the Soviet intimidation attempts to diplomatic contacts prior to his sudden passing.
