Political scientist Alpo Rusi examines Soviet intelligence efforts to influence Finnish leadership and labor negotiations during the late Cold War era.

Political scientist Alpo Rusi has provided further analysis on Soviet intelligence operations targeting former Finnish Prime Minister Keijo Liinamaa during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Writing for Iltalehti, Rusi outlined how KGB operatives attempted to manipulate political developments in Finland as President Urho Kekkonen's era drew to a close.

Liinamaa, who also served as Finland's national conciliator, faced mounting pressure and threats prior to his sudden death in December 1980. According to Rusi's account, Moscow sought to influence key executive decisions and trade union negotiations to maintain its geopolitical leverage over Helsinki during the Cold War.
