German police have identified a suspect linked to the Islamist scene after a vehicle struck a crowd at Berlin's Pride celebrations, leaving one person dead and several critically injured.

German authorities have identified a suspect connected to the Islamist scene following Saturday evening's incident at Berlin's Christopher Street Day, where a vehicle was driven into a crowd near Tiergarten park. The driver remains at large after escaping on foot.

The collision resulted in one fatality and left at least 14 to 16 people injured, with three remaining in critical condition. Media reports noted that attendees were also targeted with a edged weapon, though police have not formally confirmed knife attacks. Festivities were called off shortly after the event.

Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner called the act "an attack on our free and open society", while political figures across Germany condemned the violence. Law enforcement officials noted that while a suspect has been named, the specific motive is still under investigation.
