Macron calls emergency meeting as French wildfires approach Bordeaux

French President Emmanuel Macron convened an emergency cabinet meeting as wildfires advanced within 15 kilometers of Bordeaux, displacing tens of thousands more residents.
French President Emmanuel Macron has convened an emergency cabinet meeting as severe wildfires advance to within approximately 15 kilometers of Bordeaux. Strong winds have driven flames toward the southwestern city, prompting overnight evacuation orders for an additional 55,000 residents across the Gironde and Landes regions. The latest displacements bring the total number of people evacuated in southwestern France to around 250,000, with firefighters struggling to contain blazes that have already consumed roughly 100,000 hectares of forest.
The escalation follows widespread emergency measures across Southern Europe, including complete evacuations on France's Cap Ferret peninsula and a state of emergency near Madrid and Ávila in Spain. Concurrently, Typhoon Noul forced the evacuation of over 700,000 people in southern China while disrupting major air and rail transport networks.
