Tehran demands an end to US sanctions before reopening the Strait of Hormuz as maritime traffic falls sharply amid military escalation.

Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz remain elevated six months after Iran restricted maritime access following US and Israeli actions. Tehran has reiterated that the waterway will not reopen until Washington ends port blockades, lifts oil sanctions, releases frozen assets, and halts regional military operations.

Despite reaching a technical agreement with Oman to design a safe transit route, commercial traffic remains severely disrupted, dropping from 95 to around 15 daily transits. Security risks intensified after American forces attacked Iran's Larak Island to counter mine-laying efforts during nocturnal US oil movements. Iranian forces reportedly countered with rocket-launched mines, heightening concerns over military escalation in the strategic corridor.
