Authorities in Spain and Turkey are investigating several fatal transport accidents, including a train collision near Toledo and multiple road crashes.

Emergency services and local authorities in Spain and Turkey are investigating a series of separate transport accidents that resulted in scores of casualties.

In central Spain, a high-speed train travelling on the Madrid-Seville line collided near Los Yebenes in Toledo province. The impact caused two carriages to derail and tumble down an embankment, killing 64 people.

Meanwhile, several major road crashes occurred across Turkey. In Ankara’s Polatlı district, a head-on collision between two automobiles left three people dead and four others injured. In Isparta province, a minibus carrying seasonal agricultural workers struck a freight truck from behind, injuring 17 passengers. A separate collision involving heavy cargo vehicles resulted in one fatality and three injuries.

Official inquiries into the causes of each incident remain underway.
