Icelandic voters have rejected a proposal to resume accession negotiations with the European Union after updated referendum results showed the 'No' camp leading with 51.8% of the vote.

Voters in Iceland have rejected a proposal to resume accession negotiations with the European Union in a closely contested referendum. Initial partial counts reported by public broadcaster RUV initially placed the "Yes" camp slightly ahead at 51.2%. However, as vote counting progressed, updated results reversed the outcome, with the "No" campaign securing 51.8% of the vote, representing over 91,000 ballots.

The vote was framed by the government in Reykjavik as a major decision on whether to reactivate formal negotiations suspended in 2013. The final result confirms that Iceland will not re-enter membership talks with the European Union for the foreseeable future, preserving its status outside the European bloc.
