Hungary has reclaimed nearly 2.3 billion forints from a Mészáros-linked fund following a toll system audit, while expanding scrutiny to IT contracts held by Gábor Emőri.

Hungarian Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy announced that a private equity fund linked to businessman Lőrinc Mészáros has refunded nearly 2.3 billion forints to the state. The reimbursement stems from an ongoing investigation into state acquisitions of electronic toll system companies negotiated under former minister János Lázár, which previously cost the public 64.5 billion forints.

Following the repayment, Hungarian authorities are widening their asset recovery probe to inspect IT contracts held by Gábor Emőri. Emőri, one of Hungary's wealthiest businessmen, spent 12 years developing and operating critical components of the national toll infrastructure. Officials are reviewing historical transactions to evaluate whether further public funds can be reclaimed from state contracts awarded during his tenure.
