Commercial maritime traffic through key Middle Eastern straits has plummeted following Houthi attacks, mine explosions, and piracy incidents.

Commercial shipping traffic through the Bab al-Mandab strait dropped significantly after Houthi attacks on Saudi energy facilities, according to Kpler data showing just 11 commercial vessels transited on Sunday. Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz also registered low volumes.

Meanwhile, Iranian media reported an oil tanker explosion in the Strait of Hormuz after the vessel reportedly turned off its radar, drifted off course, and struck a sea mine. Iranian forces also stopped several commercial vessels in the area.

In separate incidents, the Saudi-flagged tanker NCC Masa sustained minor hull damage from an attack in the Red Sea but resumed its voyage. In the Gulf of Aden, Somali pirates continue to hold a hijacked vessel carrying eight German citizens.
