The EU's Aspides mission raised its threat level to high in the southern Red Sea following attacks, while Germany redeploys warships and US forces enforce blockades.

Naval security concerns are escalating across the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden following several maritime security incidents. The European Union's Aspides naval task force raised its threat assessment for the Bab al-Mandab strait and the southern Red Sea to "high" following a Houthi strike on the Saudi-flagged tanker NCC Masa, which sustained slight hull damage.

In parallel, the United States Central Command disabled a commercial vessel attempting to breach an Iranian port blockade by firing on its engine room after multiple warnings. Meanwhile, Germany announced the redeployment of two warships from near East Africa to the eastern Mediterranean. The shift comes as Somali pirates in Puntland continue to hold a merchant ship seized in the Gulf of Aden, which reportedly has eight German citizens aboard.
