German police shot and killed a suspect following a fatal vehicle attack at Berlin's Christopher Street Day parade that left one dead and 16 injured.

German police have shot and killed the suspect in a fatal vehicle attack at Berlin's Christopher Street Day parade following a manhunt across the capital.

Authorities stated that a white van drove into a crowd near Tiergarten park late Saturday, killing one woman and injuring 16 others. Officers subsequently located the suspect in the western borough of Spandau, where he was fatally shot after charging at law enforcement officers with a knife.

Police identified the suspect as Abdul Ballout, a 21-year-old German citizen of Lebanese origin. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt noted that "everything we are seeing here indicates that we are dealing with an Islamist attack." Investigators continue to examine the suspect's background and potential motives.
