German police are pursuing a suspect after a van rammed into a crowd at Berlin's Christopher Street Day festival, killing one person and injuring 16 others in a suspected Islamist attack.

German law enforcement officials have identified a suspect following Saturday night's vehicle ramming at the Christopher Street Day festival in Berlin, according to local reports. A white van drove into a crowd near Tiergarten park at approximately 22:00 local time, killing one woman and injuring 16 others, several critically.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt characterized the incident as an intentional act, stating, "everything we are seeing here shows that we are dealing with an Islamist attack."

The driver fled the scene on foot after abandoning the vehicle. A large-scale joint manhunt involving Berlin police and federal officers remains underway to locate the fugitive suspect. Organizers suspended all festival activities immediately following the collision.
