Police in Berlin have shot and killed the suspect in a fatal vehicle ramming at the city's Pride parade after he allegedly attacked officers with a knife.

German authorities confirmed that police shot and killed the primary suspect in Saturday evening's vehicular attack on Berlin's Christopher Street Day parade. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old German citizen Abdul Ballout, was located in the western district of Spandau following a citywide manhunt. Officers opened fire after Ballout allegedly charged at them with a knife.

The operation follows an incident near Tiergarten park where a white van drove into a crowd celebrating Pride, leaving one woman dead and 16 other people injured. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt noted that preliminary findings point toward an "Islamist attack." Federal and local law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate the suspect's background and potential extremist ties.
