Political scientist Alpo Rusi details KGB operations in Finland during the 1970s and 1980s, including threats made against former Prime Minister Keijo Liinamaa.

Political scientist Alpo Rusi has detailed historical Soviet intelligence operations targeting Finnish political leaders during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Writing in a guest column for Iltalehti, Rusi examined the political games and covert influence exercised by the KGB during a crucial period in Finland's political history.

Central to Rusi's account are threats directed at Keijo Liinamaa, who served as Finland's national conciliator and prime minister. According to Rusi, Liinamaa faced intimidation from Soviet agents shortly before his unexpected death in December 1980. Liinamaa had reportedly disclosed these threats to a diplomat prior to his passing. The revelations highlight Moscow's efforts to manipulate domestic Finnish politics and influence the presidential succession.
