Political scientist Alpo Rusi details KGB influence operations and threats directed at former Finnish Prime Minister Keijo Liinamaa during the late Cold War era.

Political scientist Alpo Rusi has provided further insight into historical Soviet covert operations in Finland during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Writing in a column for Iltalehti, Rusi examined intelligence tactics deployed by Moscow to influence domestic politics and the political transition during the declining years of President Urho Kekkonen's tenure.

The analysis focuses on Keijo Liinamaa, who served as prime minister of a caretaker government in 1975 and as national conciliator. Liinamaa reportedly faced severe intimidation from Soviet agents prior to his sudden death in late 1980. According to Rusi, Moscow's security apparatus targeted key Finnish mediators to sway economic policies, labor negotiations, and leadership succession during the Cold War.
